To Easter and Beyond!

Happy Easter!

St Adwenna Dawn Service.

At 6.30 on Easter the Dawn Service was held at St Adwenna. The Rev. Prof. Andrew Lewis officiated & Katie played the organ. It was a sunny but extremely windy morning & lighting the Pastoral Candle from the fire was not easy, eventually the Candle was lit & the candle was blessed in the shelter of the porch. Then the congregation of 14 entered the dark Church as the candles were lit. Instead of a sermon a very fitting poem by George Herbert was read. After the Service we all indulged in bacon baps cooked by Lizzie Lewis.

This was indeed a very fitting beginning of the Easter Celebrations.

We had some wonderful celebrations throughout the Benefice on Easter Day, including two Sunrise Services (A bit more windy at St Johns than St Adwenna), great praise and celebration at St Thomas and St Julitta, then to top it all off, at St Tetha we had band and choir singing their hearts out in praise. Along with our regular team of Jeffrey, Geraldine and Andrew, it was delightful to have Rev’d Simon Bettersby come and take the service at St Tetha. Since then, the Easter message has continued, as for “Low Sunday” we first were joined with our Methodist friends at St Thomas, and then at St Teath we celebrated communion in the way we used to pre-pandemic, from the East End. Roll on Coronation, we’re ready for you!

Ride on? Right on!

Our whole Benefice joined together on Palm Sunday morning for worship in the beautiful setting of St Julitta’s Lanteglos-by-Camelford. Our procession round the grounds with palms was followed by telling the story of Holy Week, followed by Communion together. Here is the St Teath Church Choir, singing God So Loved the World whilst Rev’d Jeffrey is preparing the table. In the afternoon, a more informal approach to Palm Sunday was held in St Thomas, Camelford, where we sang many hymns of the season and even at one stage had a praise conga!

The Winding Path

On Passion Sunday, 26th March, we considered the story of the raising of Lazarus. Rev’d Jeffrey terry led services at St Johns and St Julitta, whilst Lay Readers Claire and Sue led a more informal breakfast service as St Teath. We were reminded of the winding path to Easter. To help focus our prayers, we placed figures on a winding path to remind us life isn’t always straightforward…….

Open the Book Delabole style!

Delabole Open the Book has returned to the Primary School [104 pupils].  The ecumenical team, drawn from THe methodist Church, St John’s, the House Church and Tube Station hold a weekly assembly.

This morning, a very simple version of the Last Supper; a pin could be heard dropping as we shared the bread and the cup.  After Bible Story, we were encouraged to think about a special meal and to say, ‘Thank you’ for the times we eat with friends.

Next week we will follow the time from Jesus’ arrest, through to his rising from the tomb and meeting with his disciples.
